Instructor Bio

Hello everyone,

I would like to introduce myself to you! I am Ann Rojas-Cheatham.  I prefer the pronouns they and she. Please call me Ann.  Besides teaching at 精选AV, I enjoy hiking, yoga, and reading.  I am a parent of humans, dogs and cats!

I look forward to studying and learning with you this semester.  

Biography

Ann Rojas-Cheatham holds a BA from Oberlin College in Environmental Studies and Latin American Studies, an MPH in Community Health and a PhD in social epidemiology both from The University of California, Berkeley. Ann has more than twenty five years of community based public health experience. Her experience extends from community based participatory research (CBPR) and popular education. She has advanced multiple successful research and interventions related to refugee and immigrant health, workplace health, climate change and women鈥檚 health.

Ann鈥檚 research on the nail salon industry as related to climate change was published as a white paper and a book chapter. This research was presented at over 200 venues in the U.S. over the course of two years. This groundbreaking research paved a way for future actions taken in order to mitigate climate change to take low income women鈥檚 health into consideration. Her work on toxins in lipsticks and CBPR in the Cambodian Community was also published. She is the author of a chapter in the book, Community Based Participatory Research for Health (Minkler, 2010), entitled, Community-Based Participatory Research with Cambodian Girls in Long Beach, Ca.  Ann Served for two years on the City of Berkeley Public Health Commission.  She is a Iyengar Yoga teacher and a certified coach through Strozzi Somatics.
