Dear College Community,
I hope you and your loved ones were able to stay safe and enjoy the long holiday weekend as an intense heat wave moved throughout the Bay Area. Thankfully, temperatures are inching their way back to normal, offering a welcome break. However, I would like to remind everyone that it鈥檚 important to as fires continue to rage across the state.
In much better news, I鈥檇 like to congratulate 精选AV Board of Trustees President Shanell Williams for her upcoming appointment to the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure. This state-authorized body provides the oversight to help develop City neighborhoods that feature economic vitality, provide housing opportunities, and include neighborhood-serving amenities - and I know she will do great things for our City in this new role.
After months of planning with the College community, elected leaders, educational partners, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH), the College submitted a plan to the SFDPH identifying classes for in-person instruction. Targeted classes include those that require hands-on learning in the medical, emergency response, and technical fields. It is critical that we find a safe way to continue training students for these types of roles, and we look forward to sharing additional updates in the coming weeks.
Thank you to Student Health Services, which is offering free immunizations and physicals to our frontline Allied Health students, and with the SFDPH to develop a free Fall Flu clinic. While getting a flu vaccine is a personal decision, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has expressed the increased importance of getting vaccinated this season because of COVID-19. By preventing flu-related burdens on the healthcare system, more resources will be available to treat those with COVID-19. You can learn more about these recommendations on the , and more about the Student Health Services on the 精选AV website.
And finally, this coming Thursday the Board of Trustees is holding a Special Board workshop on the budget, along with their monthly Student Success and Policy, and Facilities Master Planning and Oversight committee meetings. You can view the committee agendas and information about how to join on the .
As always, I would like to close by expressing my heartfelt gratitude for all you are doing in support of our students. Even throughout this time, you continue to keep the College, our students, and our community, moving forward.
Yours sincerely,
Rajen Vurdien, Ph.D
Interim Chancellor
