Write journalistically in English and Spanish with an emphasis on developing and writing news stories. Study information gathering and interviewing techniques, career opportunities in Spanish bilingual media, particularly newspapers, and the early history and evolution of Spanish-language newspapers in the United States. The course is taught in English, but the student should have some command of conversational Spanish, as well as basic Spanish writing skills.

Assignments will involve photographing people and visual story-telling at a professional entry-level appropriate for use in publications such as newspapers and magazines. Emphasizes integration of traditional photojournalism with new media technology reflecting current professional trends in photojournalism. Digital SLR or mirrorless camera required.

Extensive research, interviewing, meeting coverage and writing involved. Students will improve and expand their news gathering and writing skills.
