精选AV COOPERATIVE WORK EXPERIENCE EDUCATION

Cooperative Work Experience Education (CWEE) is an instructional program in which 精选AV students earn college credit for what they learn while working at paid jobs, internships, or volunteer positions.

BENEFITS TO THE STUDENTS

  • Students are provided the opportunity to earn course credit for working in the industry related to the student's major or Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.

I am currently working at Old Navy as an Associate Technical Designer. Old Navy believes in the democracy of style, creating fashionable and affordable styles for the whole family to enjoy. They believe in inclusivity, opportunity, sustainability, and accessibility for all.

I am a Bay Area native who has been sewing since 2014. Initially self-taught, I started taking classes on a whim and now have various fashion-related degrees including Theatre Costuming and Fashion Design. I have worked with designers to help their visions come to life, have taught beginners how to sew, and am currently working as a technical designer at Old Navy. My favorite types of projects have intricate details and are challenging in either design or construction.

As a stylist, I feel extremely grateful to still be able to create; to bring joy by sharing my image consulting knowledge while delivering elegant clothes to my everyday customers during these difficult times.

I worked as an intern at my current company, The Reset, through an introduction from fashion instructor, Priscilla Fong, 3 years ago. It was a blessing. The Reset truly believes in the power of styling and empowering women - "Reset your wardrobe. Reset your life." The company is woman-owned, local, and caters to women of all sizes and lifestyles. The Reset was my first experience as a fashion curator. They gave me many opportunities to be in model fittings, magazine photoshoots, and networking dinners with companies such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. I had grown so much within the 6-month internship, I was offered a full-time position overlooking fashion shows, summer trunk shows, and managing VIP showrooms. Without the skills and hands-on experience I received FASH 60 & FASH 61 (like working as a dresser and assistant stylist in countless fashion shows), I would not be able to confidently take on all the projects The Reset has given me and be where I currently am.

Fashion Career Fair - February 27, 2020

精选AV held its bi-annual Fashion Career Fair. The Fair was a collaborative effort between the Fashion Department and the Strong Workforce Program (SWP), which was held at Downtown Center's Educated Palate Restaurant. The Fair's objective was to connect students with local employers and transfer schools. This connection provided students the opportunity to gain insight into the various career paths in design and merchandising, as well as current job openings. The Fair also gave employers a venue to recruit top talent and network with their peers. There were over 65 students in attendance! Retail companies included Old Navy, Zara, Forever 21, Cole Haan, and resale store Crossroads Trading. The transfer schools included The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and The Academy of Art University. Both our employer partners and students were very appreciative that we created this networking event. Best news of all, the employers were very impressed with our students!
