Bioreactor Technology

Skills needed to serve as a technician in the biotechnology and biomanufacturing industries. Students grow and monitor bacterial and yeast cultures that produce recombinant proteins, emulating the large-scale production used in industry. Cleaning, sterilization, aseptic inoculation, operation, and monitoring of fermenters and bioreactors. Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) will be emphasized.

Edit & Color DaVinci Resolve

Edit & Color DaVinci Resolve builds on skills gained from introductory video editing classes. The focus is on transferring editing techniques to the industry-standard software for color correction and grading techniques common in professional post-production. Students create projects aligned with professional video formats, color correction, and grading for short-form storytelling and portfolio development.

Video Motion Graphics - Introduction

Introduces students to core processes involved in conceptualizing and executing digital effects, compositing techniques, and motion graphics sequences for various media and devices. Concepts and skills are introduced, practiced, and integrated into projects in a hands-on classroom/laboratory setting. Topics include layering, keyframing, compositing, manipulating effects, and technical and creative considerations.

Custom Metal Fabrication

Intermediate course to develop the skills necessary to cut, shape, weld, and fabricate various types of metal products from raw materials. Usage of MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), gas welding, English Wheel, Power Hammer, and various other metal shaping equipment and techniques will be presented.

Intro to Asian American Studies: Southeast Asian American Experiences

Ethnic Studies introduction to U.S. Southeast Asian communities from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Asian American experiences and contributions to social, political, economic institutions at local, state, national levels. Indigenous cultural heritage and historic experiences of refugees, immigrants, and lived-experiences and struggles. U.S. colonialism and neocolonialism, immigration, racism, family, community, political, social heritage. Community produced Asian American theory and knowledge.

Stories of Asian America

Introductory course examining long term and emergent issues in different genres of Asian American literature. Ethnic Studies themes such as race, dislocation, displacement, nation, home, self-determination, gender, class, and sexuality will be considered. Analyze literature and apply Ethnic Studies theory to critical events, histories, cultures, and intellectual traditions, and stories with special focus on the lived experiences, social struggles, and contributions of Asian Americans.

19th-Century Painting

This course examines 19th-century painting, including works in the permanent collection and special exhibitions at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. All art will be discussed from a critical and historical perspective with regard to cultural context and formal elements of style.
